Customs Charges on DVD's

Just received 3 Blu Ray DVDs from the States with a note saying that I owe an additional €15 as it was stopped at customs. The value on the package is $70.

I've never had DVD's stopped before. And €15 on a package that's worth around €50 seems excessive.

Any body know how this is worked out, or if that's the correct price?

It can be calculated on the combined value of good and the postage. So if you buy a 1cent pencil and get it DHL'd for €22 you are over the limit and liable to duty and VAT on the combined price.

Duty % depends on the goods.

People go on like they are being stung or fined or caught out. You are simply paying what shops here have to (expect the handling thing), but they include it in the price.
