    Hi
I recently got a beautiful Japanese Akita bitch, she not my first dog as i've trained rottys in the past she as good as gold but I know they can be a bit stubborn and a bit of a challenge, would anyone have any good tips on training them or any handy bit of info I could use, any advice would be great, thanks.

My mum bought a long-haired Akita pup (Miko, who is now 3), and one thing I would strongly advise is to socialise her with other dogs and people as much as possible. Unfortunately my mum didn't do this so Miko is quite dog aggressive, and doesn't really like strangers either!

She is a beautiful dog and has a fantastic nature with people she knows. Just a shame she's such hard work when out for walks - constantly rearing up at other dogs. Mum says she just wants to play, but the other dogs deffo don't want to play with her - she's huge!!!

Training would be pretty similar to Rotties I reckon, although some Akita 'experts' say you should never smack an Akita as they will remember and resent you, dunno how true this is???

This site is good for info and links: http://www.akitarescue.org.uk/

    Good luck!
