Quick C&C - Some Stonework

I took these a while ago and never got around to processing. I couldn't think of a title or common theme other than the fact that they all contain elements of stonework.

First up, I liked the vistas through these archways, and the fact that they were on the same axis. Im not happy with the car poking its nose in, but I wasn't able to move it.

    Projecting window
I was trying to get that harsh contrast with the processing, Thoughts?
Any idea how to improve the PP (or do it better from the start)

I think this one is lacking a focal point, if I was to re-shoot it, I'd try out a shallower DoF

    C&C please

    Thats Kilkenny isn't it?

You could always clone out the car in no.1. The shot feels a little empty tho. Maybe get a good bit closer with a wider lens and off centre and try a longish exposure with someone walking through the frame. Like those great shots sasar (sp?) posts.

I kinda like no.2. Might help with a tight portrait crop of the window

1st Picture: Nice idea nicely captured but theres a car there kinda distracts you from the midlle..

2nd Picture: I like the editing on it looks very nice and it looks like ghost castle.. Im trying to think of a better word and I cant!! I like this picture though.

3rd Picture: Its just bland and dark.. Maybe if it was a bit brighter..

4th Picture: I think if you moved back more and had more of the bush it would suit it better.. Its only got one corner of the bush and its distracting from the castle.

I'll try a crop on the car later and post up,
as for the bush, I couldn't move back any more (iirc), there was a railing there, thats why I suggested a shallower DoF, to reduce the impact of the bush

thanks for opinions, keep em coming

You need to crop the right hand side now, even it out.

    is the BW/original an HDR?
if so, darken the blue sky as much as you can before doing a bw convertion, it will make the sky look more interesting IMO

I had that done, but removed it. I thought the non-centred short worked better

Not a HDR, single frame, hand held etc

1st photo is just boring to be honest. Central composition, flat light, nothing happening in it(though I know it's hard to find any other kind of light in this country!).

I wouldnt bother getting too photoshoppy with it. Just go and take a more interesting photo!

2nd photo is quite nice, particurly as a good use of black and white.

3rd photo doesnt have a subject. And the light is flat and cloudy AND not really shining on the castle.

Dont photoshop these. Get out and take some better pix to begin with.

One and four are snapshots, but I really enjoy the contrast in the second.

Taken in Feb so light was never going to be good, couldn't exactly wait for a better day either. I know theres nothing happening in it, but architectural ahots rarely do, :D
    point taken on the central

Justto be clear, the 3rd wasn't up for C&C, its the orginal of the second, I put it up incase anybody had any tips for the B&W PP

    thanks for the input

The building in 2 looks great, really nice B&W conversion, but there seems to be a lot of banding in the sky. I can see what you were doing in no. 1, but I think the flat light makes it a bit dull - not your fault obviously! Maybe shooting further back with a telephoto lens would have squashed the perspective a bit, bringing the second arch closer and allowing you to crop out the car? Just a thought anyway...

Kilkenny Castle alright, lovely place to visit, I was in there one morning around 8am and got a load of shots...however I'm lazy and I've only processed one so far :) (see below)

I like #1 the most when its cropped, think it would look nicer with more contract too and perhaps in B&W?
