    Hi,
On a whim I ran in this the other day...
    Boy was I stupid :-)
Marvellous race. Not for the feint hearted. Almost a marathon but with 3 mountains in the way and all of 1800m of climb. Its described as 3 mountain races separated by 2 cross country races. I've done many marathons but this was the hardest thing I've ever run.

Home page is here if anyone is interested in checking it out... http://www.threepeaksrace.org.uk/

The picture is the climb up the 1st peak. The 2nd peak is barely visible on the horizon :-) I'm up front in the green vest.

    Regards,

    Mick

I noticed that too, I presumed it was the same path up an down.

Congrats on running in the race - it looks fantastic - how many people participate? How long does it take the winner / average punter ? and if it isn't too personal a question, how long did it take you?

Anyway, congratulations again, there's a hill mountain race in Dungarvan, County Waterford on on the 17th or 18th of this month and I'm going to enter - it's only about 5 miles I think - does anybody know aything about that race? ... sorry for going off-topic.

    Hi,
The first peak is a conventional up and down track, so while you're on the way up the leaders are all speeding down. In the far distance you can barely make out the 2nd mountain which is almost a grass wall to climb up. Others I was with say that it was akin to hills in the Mournes. The 3rd peak was a limestone monster and the way up was pretty much all steps cut into the mountain. Pretty savage.

The race was won in a phenomenal 2 hrs 50 by a Scottish fell runner. A sub 4hrs 30 time is apparently quite commendable. If you finish at all its still quite a badge of honour as there are quite a lot of DNFs and they have time cut offs at check points so you could get stopped if you're not through nominated points at certain times.
    Regards,
    Mick
