Hi guys I know nothing about gardening except that the grass in my back garden is growing at an alarming rate it needs to be cut AT LEAST once a week. other wise the job becomes exceptionally difficult.

is there a way to slow down how fast the grass grows? I don't want to kill it just slow its growth.

    any suggestion are greatly appreciated

    Cheers
    Graham

    It's the early year growth.
It will temper in the later months, but till then you have to put up with it.
You could try replanting it with a slower growing variety, specialist shops may have this seed in stock.

Yep - it'll grow like that for next six weeks or so - maybe more. I regularly mow the lawn 3 times per fortnight when growth is at it's fastest.

Grass also stops growing under I think it's four degrees centigrade, so reassure yourself that after slowing down later in the season, it'll stop growing altogether in cold snaps in winter.

I heard that if you soak grass seed in vodka before sowing, it grows half cut:D

It's caused by photosynthesis! Basically once there's sufficient moisture in the soil, grass growth is dependent on daylight length and light levels. May/June are hence the big months for grass growth with a taper in growth after that.

The temperature is not so important. Grass starts to grow at 6C and grows faster up to 10C. At higher temperatures there's very little difference.

If someone comes up with a way or a product to slow down grass growth, he/she is guaranteed to become a millionaire.

It seems like you only cut it and its away again:(

    They have. Astroturf...

I moved home last year and spent months looking for a new property - One beautiful house we looked had an astroturf garden. The estate agents blurb had the dimensions at 10m x 50m. Sounds fine, I thought - except it was 10m long and 50m wide - looked like a race track around the house. Instead of buying a lawn mower, an industrial vacuum cleaner would be the order of the day.
