    Hi.

Im a mac mini user and into music stuff. I wanted to get an external HD to sit under the mini and ordered an Iomega MiniMax. It arrived today and it sounds like a jet engine so its gotta go.

Could someone please reccommend me an external HD with a reasonable footprint, that doesnt make too much racket?

Im probably gonna get a WD Elements 500gig from Komplett (unless anyone can give me good reason not to). Seems like good value. My brother has one and it performs really well, is silent, and doesnt need a plug.

Thanks for any advice on this.

I have a WD my book alright and it doesn't make a sound after it's turned on. Anyone else i know with the brand is very happy with it. Just my two cents to throw out there

Thanks man. I hear Seagates are pretty quiet too.

My only concern about the WD Elements is that the performance might be a bit slower than a powered hard drive. ANyone know anything about this?

And why are those WD Elements so cheap? They seem brilliant to me.

Ahh I see now. The WD Elements 500gig is 7200 and AC powered. I just presumed it was portable like my brothers.

I might go for a 320 gig Passport II

 so many HDs on Komplett. :(
