Sat Problem - any thoughts...

Just wanted to bounce this off of anyone who may have a suggestion here.

I have a multiroom setup with an HD box downstairs & a Sky + box upstairs.

Problem started whe the builders caught the dish & kocked it slightly out of alignment. The signal is still there but is 50% on the upstairs box & only 22% on the downstairs box. Suffered it with sparklies, but then suddenly I got a message on the HD box saying there was a problem with the viewing card & no channels would work. Next time switched on & it had defaulted to ITV Central, BBC etc.

I put the HD card into the Sky+ box & its gives me RTE etc with no mention of a fault. Also, if I switch the boxes around, the Sky+ box works fine downstairs & the HD upstairs repeats its 'problem with the card message'.

Sky (DMC/Sierra) just came round & said its a dish alignment problem, but they wouldnt touch the dish while the builders were on site...fair enough, but if it was just alignment, why does the Sky+ box work fine upstairs & downstairs......

Any thoughts or does the HD box demand a stronger signal ?

    Cheers

    Andi

I have noticed that my sky+ box (latest pvr 3 model) says also 100% signal strenght, while an older grundig I've upstairs only ever gets around 50%-60% so I assume there is different tuners in them.

Is the dish accessible where you could try to adjust it yourself ? You can always mark the current position (so worst case sceanario, you can bring it back to the current state if you cant do any better yourself).

Yeah, I adjusted it yesterday & got a much better signal - I'd say around 90% on the Sky+ box & 60% ish on the HD box & still have the same problems with the card.

Sat engineers told me that if I ordered a new card for the primary box, I'd lose viewing on the secondary box too, but when I phoned sky, they said no probs - ordered a new card for the HD box & doesnt seem to have affected the Sky+ box....have to wait for the new card.

OK, report back with your findings! It might help others in the future.

Must be either box or alignment so. More inclined to lean towards box problem, though low signals can also give the card problem onscreen message.
