reporting of murder cases

What is peoples opinions of the constant drip feed of information that seems to be happening more and more in relation to murder cases by radio and tv news outlets? I've no problem with them reporting on the case exactly, it needs to be done, but there seems to be a daily report of what has come out in court and what the jury heard and I just wonder how important is it to have that information in the public sphere? what if at the end of a case someone is proven innocent, how much of an impact would the news coverage have on their lives? There are already a number of newspapers being sued for what they said about a young man who was convicted of the manslaughter of a younger boy (can remember their names) will this be something that happens more often?

They are court reports you're hearing every day.
A court is public. Anyone can walk in and hear the evidence.
