has anyone used this company before? it could just be an amateur-ish looking site that is above board but i can't find anything on them after a quick check in google...
about me section, shipping...etc....even the comments from 'customers'...all seem a little suspect...

maybe i am wrong....can anyone elighten me pls?

They are legit alright - a friend of a friend works there.
It's a new site alright - agreed the 'customers' part looks a little iffy!
But it's all legit - didn't check their price of shipping

Here was the release about the site that I got:

We launched our On Line store this week.

Its called 5050 & the web site is www.5050.ie

Cool name, cool products & cool site.

The idea is to build a Community of People on the Go. The definition of people on the go, are people travelling on aeroplanes, cars, caravans, boats, trains, running, cycling & walking.

Our biggest challenge is getting the name out there.

Over the coming weeks, we will be on some of the local radio stations, national & local newspapers.

We have to be careful from a Budget point of view because I am sure many of you remember the 2000 .Com days & how many companies went bust because of excess advertising spend.

One of the actions we are doing here, is sending this e mail to our friends/network.

Also some of the products might be of interest to you, your family or your friends.

We have a great product for weighing your luggage, its a Digital weighing scales. How many of us have travelled, be it business or personal & have had the concern that our bags are overweight. With the Digital weighing scales, this will no longer be an issue. You need worry no more about getting ripped off on excess baggage charges.

In addition, we have batteries for Notebooks, I Pods at unbelievable prices & lots more.

From our 15 years sourcing experience, we are able to source products that are cool & have an excellent price point.

If you can share this e mail with people that you think might be interested in looking at the site, that would be great.

If you have any ideas or recommendations about the site or anything else, please feel to give me any feedback, it is very welcome.

    Thanks for your help.

    Kind Regards.

Im not a person on the go, im a person on the Stop.

Is this site really for me?

Me too - but an iPod will work in both cases!

205 is a good price though no?

they usually are repaired items returned to warranty, repackaged on plain boxes and probably with all accessories but not the same packaging
items could have some blemishes but they are fully working
    Warranties are often reduced

I've got a refurbished camera for my wife, good deal when you don't mind the missing packaging, but no good if you intend to give it as a gift

In most cases its stuff that customers sent back after encountering problems with it. Often they may have complained that the stuff was DOA, but in practice when you sit down and test it, the vast majority of it is working exactly as designed. As per above- it may be missing packaging/software/cables (or whatever the customer forgot to return)- but then again, equally it may have everything (its hit and miss). Its a really good way of getting gadgets (and computer components) that you wouldn't otherwise be able to afford, at very reasonable prices. A lot of the manufacturers run refurb websites themselves- including Irish outlets for Dell, Fuji, Creative and many more. They are amazing value.

so the site has only just gone live and yet they have review quotes from customers going back to august 2007....and I quote:

'These customised Pen Drives are really great to have, like all other Pen Drives it does what its supposed to do, however being able to have your own personalised Drive is what makes this Thumb Drive different...put your name, a logo, your company...whatever you want on it & what's better, it's for free!!

firstly the site hasn't been going that long (1 week according to post above) and secondly paying 20 euro for a 1gb drive is damn expensive.....they can be picked up for well under 10 euro these days...

sorry to moan about this but I feel to get a good reputation a company should start as they mean to go on.....a load of crappy reviews from ficticious customers doesn;t inspire me with confidence and make me want to buy from them. why not just say 'we are a new company offering great products ...etc....in Ireland and throughout Europe. I wouldn;t have a prob dealing with a new company providing I felt they were honest....these guys will have to do a great deal of improving if they want me to be a customer.

as for refurbs I agee with smccarrick however using the ipod 4gb as an example it is not labelled refurb very clearly......this should be stated in the main heading description unless you are accessing the item through a 'refurb' link.....once again it screams to me of people trying to avoid stating the facts - refurb should not be in the small print a way down past the description. - for many people they wouldn;t even read the standard spec part as they know what an ipod is / does......

I'd agree with the refurb comment above. You'd expect the Refurbished condition to be hidden on eBay not on a professional retailer's site.

I bought a couple of refurbed products in the last few months (one from an eBay seller), and both have been perfect.

Wouldn't scare me tbh, if the price was right.

Hi all who have posted on this thread.

I am the webmaster for 5050.ie so in answer to your first question we are a legitimate compay operating and employing people here in Ireland

We are based in Shannon and we house all our stock here in Ireland. The points snellers raised are valid - we had test reviews on the site that should have been removed before launch but were not - my bad!. They have been removed now. All reviews from April 2 (Our official launch date) are genuine - I thinks we have a total of 6 on the site. I think if we meant to be misleading we would have put a lot more reviews.

Secondly your point on the iPods being refurbished is also a fair point. I have now added a graphic which quite clearly states "Refurbished" at top of the product description. Again we did not mean to be misleading in the descritpion. In the category descrpition it states quite clearly "Refurbished iPods".

Finally to serbians point on refurbished product - how would you sell if it was "hidden" on ebay. As already pointed out on this thread it is common practice for many top companies to sell refurbished items. The point is if you can easily afford the new item then that is what you should buy. However if you are not on the rich list like myself it's good to have the alternative.

Again let me say we are a new site so we will encounter some teething problems - so any feed back you can give us would be greatly appreciated.
    My email address is mark.nestor@5050.ie

Cheers and thanks for the input!

    Hi Mark,
I'm big enough and ugly enough to moan about the site so am big enough to say fair enough - I understand it is a new site and fair play you are correcting the issues.
I will continue to keep an eye on your offers and if anything of interest comes up will give you guys a go - I am all for supporting new ventures - best of luck to you!

    Cheers Snellers!

As i said we are just getting started and we are not afraid of a bit of criticism. If we think something will improve the site we'll go for it!
