Unlike different lenses I find the focus is soft in various bits when using the Canon 100mm Macro lense......
Finding it hard to figure out why....tried MF/AF, checked the distances etc
Tried various P/Auto/M/Macro (not really up enough on M yet)
This is not a C&C. more like HELP!

see the bottom flower petal all out of focus..........

Why is flower 1 not focused in centre?

Why is the leave at front soft near the bottom?

As you get closer your available depth of field gets narrower and narrower, those shots look as I would expect. Even using a small aperture (high f number) you will still have very little DOF.

    A better explaination here.

If your camera has live view, this is invaluable for macro

Well i don't know what camera you have but, did you check the Focus points in the screen? is it all or just some spots?

if you want all focus you have to set the camera focus points to be used all at the same time, and also as you get closer to the object the camera can't focus some parts as they are too close...
