right i had a few old ide drives floating about, they are slightly dodgey to say the least, had old xp installs on them. i stuck theminto a hd enclousure to maybe wipe em and use em as back updrives. the thing is they are detected in device manager, but not in my computer, i did a look inline for how to access them/format em, but its all for xp, not vista. any tips on how to get access to the drives/format them?

Its the same procedure for XP as it is for vista , that hasnt changed ,

    go to ...

Control panel , Administrative tools , computer management , disk management ,

you will see the drive in there , probably unassigned , right click on it for a list of options , format should be one of them.
