I'm hopefully buying a dog this wednesday - a samoyed. Both parents are fully registered and can be seen but the pups are not registered. Can I register them myself and does this cost much?

the pups are purebreds, just not registered.

Also, how much should I be paying for an un-reg samoyed? They're asking E500 - is this about right or too expensive for an un-reg pup?

any info at all greatly appreciated as I hope to be bringing it home wed!

I've already tried the IKC site but there's no info on it re: prices registering etc.. still waiting on a reply to a mail I sent them a few days ago..

I'd love to hear from someone who has registered a pet before so that they can tell me approx how much it is, and what if any documentation I need to produce.

Should i be getting copies of any certs from the person I'm buy my purebred Samoyed from? Both parents can be seen and they're both IKC registered so I presume he'll have some documention at hand..

I know I need to get the dog micro-chipped first also - I'm in the West, can anyone recommend somewhere good to get this done that's not a rip off as i've been seeing quotes from E5-E95

Thanks guys! This will be my first time registering a dog so all info greatly appreciated! :)

Im not 100% on this but I dont think you will be able to register the pup. In order to get the ikc papers the whole litter must be registered as far as I no,perhaps theres a way around it,your best bet would be to ring the ikc club and ask.

The price is high for a non reg pup,ive seen many reg samoys going for 500euros,I would have thought about 300/350 mark for a unreg. Also as a potential buyer of a pup you can ask the breeder whatever you like about the pup. Perhaps asking her why if both parents are reg she is not going to reg the pups? Onless she has something too hide she/he should be more then happy to answer any questions you have. Hope this has helped a bit.

I would find it a little suspicious that they are not registering the pups if both parents are registered.

There are reasons where you cannot register the pups born to certain parents. I'm not sure of them all, but I think there are limits on the age of the mother and how many litters that are bred from them in a year. As far as I know a lot of puppy farmers and back yard breeders breed twice a year but they can only register one litter a year per bitch.

The only other reason I can imagine for them not to register the pups are perhaps to maximise profit - from not having to microchip. If that were the case I would have serious questions as to where else they would be maximising profit in the breeding of such pups.

Have you been to visit these dogs yet? I would generally not advise taking a pup like that on a first visit. It is always a better idea to go along with the intention of viewing the first time, if necessary leave your wallet at home so you can't be tempted. It is really important to inspect the conditions that the pups are being reared in and judge whether they have been receiving adequate human socialisation. Any really genuine breeder who has pups that aren't being registered though the parents are will usually give the reason for this straight off and also drop the price accordingly, remember they are not having to pay for microchipping, so why should you have to pay full price.

Good luck with this whole situation and remember there will be plenty of other pups if they cannot satisfy you on this matter. Please don't buy a pup from somewhere that the parents are not being given the best life and respect that they deserve as it only encourages the people to continue the process.

Why not just phone the IKC. You'd have all your questions answered definitavely in a few minutes.

As far as i know the only person who can register the pups are the breeders. Did you not ask why they wont be registered? for pedigree pups not to be registered there has to be a reason for it.
I would definately question this. Where did you find these pups? Were they advertised in the paper or online? i personally would be very wary of this breeder. You need to do a bit more homework on this pup and not hand over any money until you are completely happy with the situation. If the pup is not registered you will not be able to show it or breed from it in the future as it is not IKC reg.
Why not look for a pup from a samoyed breeder in the breed club. they will point you in the right directon of good breeders. This situation just sounds a bit dodgy if you ask me so please just be aware and look into a little bit more.
