The Army and Navy Store in Galway was having a sale and I managed to snap up a gas mask and helmet.

I was wondering if anyone was able to tell me the make or any information on either one (I'm especially interested in the helmet, the crest says RF although it isn't really clear from the photos)

I am pretty sure the RF helmet is French. Was also used by the French Fire Fighter Service. I don't know about the gas mask. Sorry.

The helmet is certainly french, this paticular one is for the infantry, each section had there own emblem,i might be wrong with this but it may be ww1,some of the ww2 versions i have seen have a round badge with the Rf badge mounted on that,as for the gas mask no idea.still a nice addition.

This appears to be it, although the back of the picture has only one nail whereas mine has 3

Edit: This looks more like it although it doesn't have the exploding bomb RF insignia and mine has no circular thingy.

    Hello,

Your gas mask appears to be an export model of the Canadian C3, manufacured for use by the Dutch military. It seems to be missing a threaded screen. Apparently theses are "somwhat rare and difficult to find today".
    Good pick-up! :D

See here for the reference (Go to the Canada section of the database and find the C3 export model. This is the only one with the triangular piece at the nose):

Yes! You appear to have an identical one to mine (same rivets/shape etc)

    Thanks a million.
Do you know the name of the helmet or anything?

It does have the triangular nosepart but on the other hand, it doesn't have the clear mesh outbreather, it has the black central piece at the mouth the same as the two other Canadian C3 models.

It seems to be this model:

Do you know the name of the helmet or anything?

I think it could be the "Adrian" but could be wrong. Memories....they fail me. :(

EDIT: No, I am correct. It's an M15 or Adrian. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_helmet

(I don't like to use the Wiki for militaria related stuff but this was quicker. ;) )

    Ok, thanks folks.

I laid my hands on two other hats today. The first has a hammer and sickle on it and looks like some sort of navy cap. Inside is written what appears to be Russian.

The second has bugler hat written inside when I bought it. Anyone else got any info?

Just a quick note: It may be better to re-post these pictures as clickable thumbnails as people with a lower internet speed and/or dial-ups will become quite frustrated trying to open this thread.

I'm *supposed* to have broadband, can't get the pics to load.
