    From Macrumors:
As predicted, Apple released new iMacs today. The new iMacs include faster processors bringing the low end up to 2.4GHz and with the top end reaching 3.06GHz. The high end 24" 3.06GHz iMac also introduces the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS (512MB) video card.

The iMacs also incorporate the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors with 6MB L2 cache and faster 1066 MHz front-side bus (up from 800MHz).

Strange to see new products on a Monday. Maybe everyone at Apple is ringing in sick tomorrow to play GTA IV. :D

Hmm, was just on the Apple website and noticed something very strange, most probably a mistake but a bargain for anybody who notices it. If you go into apple.ie Education store, and look at the new iMac's, you will see that the 2.8ghz model is the same price as the 3.06ghz model with the Nvidia, which works out at 1,502 euro.

... unfair, we bought an iMac just last month or so. :((although, all we'd be missing out on would be 0.4Ghz and a couple of quid...)

That top end 24 inch is now very very tempting. Is there any bricks and mortar shop in Dublin I can walk into to buy one of those? PC world perhaps?

I thought the speed bump and faster memory bandwidth was a big plus...until I read this. Will heat exhaustion plague these new iMacs?

    • You can spec the lower-end 24" with an 8800GS & a 500Gb HDD. So for the loss of 260mHz CPU speed, you save 160euro.
    • Avoid PC World, they'll probably try to sell you a G5 iMac :p Try Spectra, O2 or 3G stores instead. Apple Store online has a delivery of 2-3 days though, so I'd still recommend that first.

Do any of those shops offer the option to customise the iMacs specs? I really want a 1TB drive.

Fraid not, it would have to be an add on.

So basically if I want anything other than the default spec I would have to go through the Apple store?
