New Honda Deauville

I'm currently in the market for a new bike and was wondering whether anyone has any information or opinions on the new Deauville. I currently drive a 600 hornet, which is not ideal for me as the tank is too small for my long commute (I'm in the petrol station every second day). I know I'd be losing a bit on horse-power but as I get old and sensible I don't see this as being a big issue!
Any feedback would be appreciated, particularly regarding fuel consumption. I know it has a 22 l tank so that would go some of the way to solving my problems. Or can anyone suggest any other bikes comparable to the Deauville?

I'd reccommend the new Deauville. Its a nice machine for the longer drives. very comfortable

The new deauville is a big improvement on the older model. I owned a 03 but ive driven the new one. The new one is 700cc with fuel injection and is very nippy. Fuel consumption is fine as long as you arent hockeying it out of it!

They improved the storage space on the paniers too.

one downside though is when the new model first lost there were corrosion issues on some of the nuts and i think the front forks too? (I think) a search on google will give you more info. As far as I know they have addressed it since.

Great reliable bike. In fact so reliable, its boring! Im looking at a new one myself too.

Thanks for that, I've read nothing but positive reviews about it elsewhere online but I'll have a look into the corrosion issue.

But I probably will go for it anyway

I got an NT700 (Deauville) in April 07. The price has come down a little since - check the honda website (http://www.hondaireland.ie/Touring_NT700_ABS_Main.HTML ) - €10,900
I do about 80km/day and get just over 300km out of the tank which normally takes about 17l of petrol at that point. (Tank capacity is 19L)
I had a problem with pannier - the catch has just gone for a second time on it and I need to bring it back to the shop - hopefully, they'll fix it again under warranty like last time. I also noticed some rust on the handlebars & stanchions which I find disapointing considering I park the bike under a shelter both at home and at work.
Overall I like the bike a lot and I am happy enough with the power and speed. The ABS is re-assuring. I got heated grips (oxford) which I'd recommend if you do winter driving.

nice bike all right big improvement on the 650

There is a widespread problem with the catch on the panniers

Are they replacing the catches with the same if problematic or do they have a new and improved part?

Hi yayamark, thats interesting that you say there is a widespread problem - I spoke with someone in Honda Ireland and he claimed there weren't many cases but I guess he couldn't really say otherwise.. Where did you hear that anyhow? - it would be good to have some amunition :o
Last time, they replaced the complete metal inner mechanism on the left pannier which they ordered from Honda. They probably could have fixed it if they examined the existing mechanism - I'd guess it might be simply mis-aligned. I wasn't keen in taking off the fairing etc.
