Getting up early and hungover on a sunday morning isn't something I do too often. I was lying in bed, dying, and there was an extremely bright crack of light shining directly into my pupil, almost telling me to "get up tis a lovely day for taking photos!"

Off I was, driving around the countryside and 10am, scouting locations!

Got lots of nice shots, but I only uploaded 4 due to crappy dialup.

    Sigma 17-70 at 48mm f11 1/250, polarizer

    All taken with a 400d

Still a noob, so tips and pointers are welcome if you have any for these particular photos...

Pic 2 is the standout one for me. What camera/equipment were you using.

Just wondering were you using a Polarising Filter on the first one. Take it easy with the sharpen tool. I find 2 & 3 over saturated and 4 is out of focus the sharpen tool won't focus your images.

If you want to photograph flies landing on flowers you'll have to learn to be patient set you shot up and wait for the fly to come to the flower, it is boring but if it's the shot you want it's what you'll have to do.

    What kit are you using?

Saturation is a touchy one some people like it, some don't. But it differs between monitors - I've looked at these pics on my pc my mates pc and the colours come out differently.

Pic 4 is out of focus because it was hand-held at 600mm!!

I have added kit info to my original post...

Keep the comments a comin', they're a great help, don't be afraid to tell me what's wrong with the photos. Even if you hate some of the photos tell me! Just be sure to tell me why you hate it:)

Ok be carful with Polarising filter cause the top right of the photo is too dark. I think you didn't have it on properly. I also think you need to get your monitor calibrated if it looks differently on your mates computer this would most likely be the reason.

The dark patch on the top right was from the ND filter methinks. I was holding it in front of the lens myself so it probably wasn't flush. I'm waiting on a filter holder from ebay....

Here's one without the dark patch, cropped a bit.

Much prefer the first one with the patch. I'd manipulate it so that the left is as dark. The whole shot has more oomph me thinks.

The second is nice too. The focus on the third is in the wrong place and the fourth is simply out of focus and not really very interesting. What I would do with the third and fourth is not post them and wait until better ones come along. The viewer is not really interested in the fact that it was a 600mm lens and hard to hold steady. They are only interested in the final result.

Tis ok the one with the filter is better. But I think you've learned the lesson of holding a filter infront of the lens. Hope you get that holder soon.

Personally, I find the second one very much overcooked

I actually don't cook my photos much at all. Spent about 20 seconds cropping that one and darkening it a bit. What do you think is wrong with it? Over-saturated or something?

By the way, my filter holder just flew in the letter box. Nice one.

"wrong" is the wrong word ...different people, different tastes and all that.

I just find that the clouds, while very dramatic, look very unrealistic.

I love the first shot, the colours are brilliant - SO vibrant! The second seems a little grainy to me.

    Nice shot!

EDIT: Ooo just noticed the yellowy/orange in the sky on the right. That takes a bit away from the shot :(
