if its any help it think the rover key fobs where the same as the land rover key fobs so maybe it might be worth giving a LR dealership a shout to see if the keys are the same type,i know anything from any dealer is going to cost an arm and a leg but it might be worth a phonecall

I recently looked into this. Firstly the fobs on ebay will not work for the 75. they will with many other models but not the 75. Basically, you have to send away your chassis number to bmw and they send back a key which is cut for your locks and has a certain amoount of its programming done. The dealer has to do further programming in the presence of the car to either match it to the central locking or the immobiliser (cant remember which one ). There is a rover specialist in england who will order it for you, I will see if I can find his name but you still need to take the key and car to dealer get it working. I think bradleys (former rover dealer in galway) was same price.

    Hi MickDW,

Yeah we figured as much! I have a feeling they won't be able to get a key for this car at all, as they found out not too long ago that all the electronics went in the car and it was left idle for nearly a year as no-one could start the car due to the electronics, we think that the ignition and door locks were all changed, so if they send off the chassis number to BMW they'll get back a key for the original locks that were in the car..

Oh well, let's just hope nothing happens the one and only key they have!

    Options are:
1/ try to find a code on the new ignition fitted and perhaps that could be traced via the dealers to get a key

2/ Get a key cut (without any electronics) from existing key so at least they would be able to open a door manually if something as simple as locking keys inside happened.

3/ Flog it..... with some spare keys. ha ha
