Apologies for asking such a probably pointless question, but I often wonder if its a question that can actually be answered. Its one that we're told plagues all of mankind and always has. As a fully paid up member of mankind, I just kind of felt that theres no harm in asking :)

So do you believe there's a meaning? Do you believe that this is even a valid question?

I truly believe the meaning of life is reproduction! Just my thought on it. How can life continue without it!

True Umbrella ,but it does not tell us what life is all about or why we are here in the first place .Like is there a bigger picture/plan

I truly believe when we die we will go on to another plain. While we are here on earth we have to prepare everything for the next generation. Although with all the global warming and wars we aren't doing a very good job!

I believe it is an evolution like you said. And that even if we had no carbon emmisions we would still have global warming! It's just the next stage of the planets evolution!

Not a pointless question, but a hard one to answer. A good starting place to answer would be to first ask you in all your musing on the subject what conclusions have you arrived at? What resonates with you.

To simplify my answer to your question I would say for me the meaning of life is
    • To live the best life I can day by day and survive this crazy world
    • To learn as much as I can about myself, my environment and the people in it
    • To help out when and where I can
    • To create some kind of value that meant my life stood for something. Could it be Boards.IE:D

I utilize 3 tools to help me achieve these goals, my Buddhist practice, The Tao, and the I-Ching

When it comes to death, I am not concerned with what happens when I die. I will die at some point and then I will know:) Anything else for me is pure speculation, though I do lean towards reincarnation. But then I am an optimist.

I guess in conclusion, the meaning of life is what you make it.

    God, that sounds depressing.

The meaning of life matters to some people, and doesn't mean sh*t to others. For those who do care, though, I suppose the meaning of life is to experience life in a flesh and blood body. Seeing as we're within the confines of a body while we're alive, the primary objective is to satisfy our physical needs. To survive.

Life's meaning is probably to simply consciously or unconsciously see how we handle life in the physical world. If we can get that right, we can transcend those basic needs to loftier needs (fulfillment, sense of purpose, relationships, spirituality, etc). A bit like Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs pyramid, I reckon.

I think Kurt Cobain said that this life was just a test to see how we could handle reality before we go on to the next world. Obviously, he failed his own test.
