hi there , im due to see a pain specialist in less than 2 weeks , specifically an injection to numb a nerve in my rib area
ive heard some horror stories about the cure being worse than the disease in that its excruciatingly painfull having this injection , im not going to chicken out but is there any truth to theese stories or is it just a case of how tollerant of pain one is

ive had a pain block, and its not at all painfull (well no more than any other injection ive had:D) i was suposed to get a course of three but since the first one did not work they didnt do the rest. (mine was in the neck, to try alieviate headaches)

my uncle gets injections in a nerve in his neck to numb the nerve to stop the pain.

he said the pain initially is worse, he normally gets the injection in the morning and goes to bed for the day but by the next day he's fine again. Its not just the pain of the injection its the associated nausea etc.

Maybe try talk to the doc? Different strokes for different folks...

    thanks everyone for the replys

i saw the doctor who is performing this procedure 2 mths ago but that was only to discuss my injury , had a scan after that at a different hospital and the results were sent to the pain specialist , he then wrote to me notifying me of this appointment for a nerve block

my injury is on the right side of my chest and is painfull in the rib area right down to the abdomen
to be honest , i think my pain has reseded somewhat lately , it should do , its been 6 mths since the accident so im thinking of postponing the nerve block so as to perhaps allow nature to do its thing

btw , does the pain injection result in you being able to return to normal activity like before your injury , i mean if i lift anything heavier than 2kg now , im in pain , with the nerve block , will i be able to lift say 20 kg without feeling anything

We're now getting into the realms of asking for medical advice outwith the "does anyone have any experience with this injection?" type. So, I'll have to close the thread.

Sorry about that. I hope you get things sorted though.

    Good luck.
