    Evening Gents and Ladies!
Welp today I finally took the camera out and took a few shots. This was taken in Lucan on the Liffey. The place is very dark as theirs overhanging tree's everywhere and right beside a forest. Any general tips would be mucho appreciated.

    Thanks for looking! :)

I just think when people say it's their 1st C&C etc and then it has a fancy name sig that it's not really sorta cocha. :o

I didn't say it was my first c&c, it's the first time I've tried to take a sports related shot...

I was speaking in general Kyle.
It's an exciting looking shot btw.

I don't really get where your coming from though. Do you mean that if somebody's looking for comments/suggestions that they shouldn't be putting their signature on the photo?

(I hope the above doesn't come across the wrong way, I'm not taken back by you comment. Just not sure what you mean :) )

    OP,

the photograph is exceptional. I am not at home so can't examine it in detail but I have to say that the detail, the expression, the capture of the water are all fantastic. Well done. Can I come down some afternoon?

You're making a prejudgement about the photograph based on nothing in particular. All that a signature says really is "I have time to do this in photoshop". It doesn't necessarily scream "I'm a hugely experienced pro photographer". If I might say one thing you need to look past things like that and at the photographs and not the window dressing. That's not to say Kyle is a bog standard starter photographer - he is not - but the signature is completely irrelevant in terms of a C&C, even for a first shot at something.

I would love this forum to be split into two, one for Beginners and one for the semi -pros.

With all due respect AR, that's a cop-out. The best way to learn something is from matching yourself up against people who do stuff better than you. Ghettoising the different standards will not help you to improve. A lot of what I have learned, I have learned here because of the high standards of some photographers who are willing to post here.

It's a good capture. Everything is spot on and you have a clear facial expression from the rower.

Everyone is here to help one another, not to differentiate between good and bad photographers.

    I think it's a good shot.
Ok, so it's a little dark & slightly soft, but you've already explained that conditions were difficult. Hope you stick at the sport, because you've certainly got ability. Nice to see something different from the normal too.

    Great Shot.

The facial expression hasa slight "Oh ****!" look to it.

The only comment I have on the photo is to post a smaller non screen consuming size

And I think that a boards mini meet could be interesting

I'm not on about me matching up with people.
It's not a competition is it?
I originally commented on someones signature....He replied and I accepted.
Anyway......when I referred to a separate forum I meant like a sub forum the way there are 3 others!

I've changed the original shot to a smaller version and larger if people want to have a look see.

Here's another shot from today, I've also put in two pictures to show you what the place looks like.

Thank for the comments so far. If theirs any tips people could give me in regards to getting sharper shots/ what settings you'd use for sports I'd love to hear.
