2 instances of one app at the same time

Edit: Don't worry, I found a solution to running two copies of an app. It doesn't work perfectly for EyeTV but that doesn't matter either because I found a solution to that too, after much Googling and forum reading ;)

I've been using EyeTV to watch TV through my Mac for a while now, and at the moment I'm using an EyeTV Hybrid mostly to pick up the new DTT service from RTE. What I want to do is buy an EyeTV 310 to pick up DVB-S satellite from Astra 2 (all the English channels). The problem is, RTE isn't available FTA through this, so I'd have to keep the Hybrid to watch RTE.

Supposedly EyeTV has no problem working with 2 tuners except when it comes to recording, when it simply picks the first available tuner. Since each of my tuners would have different channels on them I could end up with blank recordings doing this. I've Googled it a bit and the workaround seems to be to run two instances of the EyeTV software at the same time, each set to use a different tuner.

Basically I'm wondering are there any issues running two instances of an app at the same time, and what is the best way to go about it? I know my preferences wouldn't be stored permanently, but that's OK as long as they're stored for as long as I have the apps open. I'm using this Terminal command to open two instances of the app, seems to work OK, but does anyone know if anything nasty could come of this?
