Ipod issue

My brother lost his iPod Photo 60Gb a few years back and has only just found it (down the back of a sofa).

He gave it to me because he had planned on dumping it as it's no longer working.

When I turn it on all appears normal. I see the menu and use the wheel to scroll through my options. When I choose an option like music, photos, etc, it takes me to the next page but then it *seems* to freeze. As I move the wheel, I hear the clicking noise but the display doesn't move, it just remains blocked.

What is interesting though is that if I choose 'music' it takes me to the next menu with 'playlists', 'artists', etc... Now no matter what I choose will result in a blocked menu screen but it will still play songs! I can stop, play, fast forward, and change volume using the wheel but always with the menu blocked, non-moving.

    I tried :

    1. Reset (center = menu) button

    2. Updated firmware

    3. Low-Level HD format

    4. Ran M25 Diagnostics 0.7 and got :

Failure code: 190 with 10 fails
Failure code: 191 with 16 fails
Failure code: 195 with 16 fails
Failure code: 131 with 1 fails
Failure code: 135 with 1 fails
Failure code: 702 with 5 fails

Does anyone know either what is wrong, where I can find help with the error codes or the address of a site where I could look for help with this type of problem ?

    JFI...

I managed to fix it by uploading 3rd party firmware rather than using the standard Ipod firmware.
