The Bus Eireann website is an absolute joke.

Trying to find bus times for Saturday from Dublin to Carrick-on-shannon:
    Dear customer,
unfortunately there was no route found. Please try entering an intermediate (via) station.
    Please try again.

    Thank you.

    Try direct services only:
    Dear customer,

unfortunately there was no route found. Perhaps your start or destination is not served at all or with the selected means of transport on the required date/time (e. g. sometimes stops/stations are not served on weekends).
Please check with the station timetables of Dublin (Busáras) and Carrick on Shannon if a journey is possible.

    Thank you.

    Check the timetable for Carrick:
    Your query
    Stop: Carrick on Shannon
    Timetable: 01.05.08 - 31.05.08, Arrival 00:00

    Arrival (00:00 - 23:59)
No services in this space of time.

At least its improved - earlier this week it told me there were no trains  in this space of time.

I can buy a ticket online alright, but just not get any information about when I can travel.

It would appear that you need to be more specific and select Carrick-on-Shannon (Coffee Shop) from the drop-down list of destinations.

    Ah! Thanks.

Still daft though, it presents you with 'Carrick on Shannon' as one of the 3 options and then rejects it if you enter it.

But it's light years ahead of Irish Rail.

    [edit]
Actually, if you only type in Carrick, you get a list of destinations including Carrick on Shannon (but not the working coffee shop one), and 'Carrick schoo' wherever that may be.

Now only Dublin Bus have a CIE-corporate style website. Must be to make up not having a CIE-corporate style logo.

Incidently, is it just me, or has the Bus Éireann logo recently been changed slightly. The text still seems to be in CIE 2000 font but a much bolder version?

Nope, completely different font. Also the outline of the dog's now in red instead of green and his legs are apart instead of together.

Whereas Dublin Bus's recent logo change made a lot of sense, I can't understand what the reasoning must have been behind this. Bus Éireann have been so slow to roll out the CIE 2000 logo that only recently has it become ubiquitous, with the older logo still very much present. Now there are three in operation at the same time, and the latest is not an improvement.

Oh, BÉ stuck up a Bank Holiday travel notice.

The hyperlink didn't work ( http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1209744977-May-2008.pdf</a><a href= instead of ]http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1209744977-May-2008.pdf] ) and even though I e-mail them it isn't fixed and is still up on the site.

So if Bus Éireann have dropped CIE 2000, that means only Iarnrod Éireann, CIÉ Tours, and CIE itself are using the font. (Which I've never liked, IMO the Bus Éireann version was the only one that was an improvement on the original logos). Can Íarnrod Éireann please drop it now then? It looks horrible, shouldn't really be used on signage (which for a font designed specifically for a transport company is a terrible thing) and, well, did I mention it looks horrible! The IE symbol could be retained and they could revert the text to the 1995 lower-case italics version (or alternatively, bring back "Irish Rail" as part of the logo given they're using it so much for the website campaign)..

I do like the new BE font. But I prefer the old Red Setter. This new one looks too much like the Morton's fox logo, which I never thought looked good. Looks more like roadkill than a fast animal :D

The problem with bringing back "IR" in public is idiots like to deface it to "IRA". So I think it will continue to get the (London)Derry treatment.

How much will it cost to develop sites like http://www.tfl.gov.uk/ and http://www.metro.net/ for Dublin?

Any guesses on the cost over runs? Or the amount of delays?

Are you trying to suggest that UK government is capable of creating and running websites efficently? They recently admitted that they had no idea how many websites they had, or how much it cost to host/development.
    example: http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/04/04/dwp-really-2bn-budget

Transport for London is run by the office of the Mayor of London, not by the central UK Government.

What I wound say, rather then suggest, is that - unlike in Dublin - TLF have one website which includes information on buses, trains, trams, coaches, driving, cycling, walking, taxis, minicabs, and the water services.
