    Hi all

Does anyone know what the procedure is for deferring a place on an MA programme within the English department? Is it for very serious issues like a major illness or can you accept a place and then defer for a year without any major reason? Do they accept this or is it frowned upon? Does this vary from department to deparment - I have applied for the MA in creative writing.

It is usually okay, but is run on an exception-by-exception basis. Would be best to contact the creative studies course head and then have a chat to graduate studies. Ideally call in to the department in person, rather than emailing.

Varies from course to course. Get in touch with Gerald Dawe (http://people.tcd.ie/gdawe), who's the course director for the Creative Writing MPhil. It's quite a select course, apparently, so you might have to reapply next year if you don't take up your place this year - don't know how likely that is to happen, but they don't have to let people defer, there's no standard policy about it.
