A qualification in bullsh1t...... and a good knack for same should see you through :D . Forget the degree it's not needed. Follow my advice and you'll go far.

Well if you want to go to college, go for the financial services degree - more relevant to the bank. While it's correct that a degree isn't essential, it might still work to your advantage when going for promotion.

You'll also be required to complete courses while working (e.g. QFA).

If you think working in a bank is what you want to do forever then go for whichever course will let you focus on the area you're more interested in.

It totally depends on what you want to do, for example I work in a bank but the two degrees you mentioned there would be useless for my department.
QFAs seem to be pretty important for most areas, again not in my area so I don't know much about them.

What area of banking are thinking of (banking covers everything from basic admin to accounting, finance, IT, Econmics, HR Training/Recruitment etc)?

Although it is not necessary to have a degree, that will basically see you start at the lowest levels and require you to work your ass off and end up doing a degree (and possibly a masters) to get yourself up the ladder.

QFA's are essential while working in a bank (OK, maybe not for job role, but most people - I work in "IT", yet even I've done QFA exams). What makes you want to do "Banking" as opposed to any other business/financial role?

As a general rule, I think going down the road of Accounting/Finance is probably your best option. Not only are those roles at the heart of banking, but the heart of pretty much every business (should you later move away from banking).

All the advice above is good. I would say experience is key to going far. OFA would make your CV jump up the pile. If your heading into retail.

I would dis-agree with the degree comments. Yes it would help get you off to a better salary by about 3-4k more than the basic but as for studying for one as you go along, i not.

Again, OP needs to give more info as to what part, cause there massive companies.
