Help with eBay RAM/Intel Chipset Question!

    Hi guys

I'm in a dispute with a seller who I bought RAM from through eBay. I hope you can help me here:

The RAM in question is Samsung High Density PC3200. It fits in my board ok (http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=312603) but windows won't load with it, reboots every time.

The seller says it's because the RAM is high density and my motherboard's chipset (915PL) doesn't support high density RAM. Now, the seller had advertised the RAM on the auction page as being compatible with the "Intel 915", among others. When I point this out to him, he replied that 915 and 915PL are two different chipsets.

Is he right? Am I totally in the wrong here? I need to be sure of what I'm saying if I'm to ascalate a dispute with PayPal.

    Thanks guys,
    A

intel 915 is a chipset "family" which contains the 915PL. There is no 915 chipset specifically. it would be correct to assume that the ram should work with all the 915 "family". So I think u are in the right here :D

    He's bull$hitting u, link 2 ram pls. As Ishindar says, 915PL is 915 chipset

Mobo takes PC2700 or PC3200 DDR.

Thanks for the replies lads. Here's the RAM in question:

I want to escalate the dispute with PayPal but need proof that 915 and 915PL are not two different chipsets as he claims.

I've bought a few times off that seller. Nice and fast. Pity you're having problems.

Anyway, this link should be sufficient.

    http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-011594.htm

It's the same as, say, Nvidia 8600 series and 8800 - there is no vanilla 8800 and 8600, just variants of that model i.e GS, GT, etc.

Thanks for that. I've escalated to a claim, incorporating the link you provided. Might be a tricky one for PayPal to decide. Will let you know how I get on.
