Hey, I dont know if im in the right forum, so if its fitting would the mods please move this.

My question is, say I have a PC without a tv-tuner card but a dvd drive. No other tv exists in the house. Do i need a tv licence? do dvd players like this come under the rules governing the tv licence.

I dont think so, but want to be sure before i decide not to renew it and get the tvs out of the house. Ive checked the legislation, and found no mention of it as long as there is no tv-tuner in a media centre.

    Cheers in advance

Hi. I know for a fact that if you have a 'tuner', that being a generic device for intercepting TV signals, you do need a licence.

Ha Ha... I just re-read the post. Sorry, it's Monday.

If you are not intercepting TV signals, just watching DVD's, then no, you do not.

That's correct OP. But if you have an old vcr lying about with a tuner in it you'll need a licence!

cheers lads, I was pretty sure just wanted to check.

Yeah, the tv-tuner card will be given to someone else to mind for a while id say! wasnt sure about it but saw a post in here that answered that, but the dvd-player bit had me confused!
