Braces/Traintracks......a second time?!

I need to get braces again. I had them for three and a half years from the age of 15-18. Am 20 now. I wore my retainer religiously as instructed for the first year, 24 hours a day. So that brings me to 19. After this I was told I had to wear it nights for life. Started fine at first, forgot here and there, when I went to put it in was mega painful, now it's at the point where I can't even try anymore because they don't fit at all. Teeth have moved, not noticeable to others, but very much so to me. The bottom ones are worse than the top. SOOOOO is the only answer to save up, go through the whole rigmarole again and actually wear the retainer all the time as instructed? So annoyed at myself.

    hi there,
i had exactly the same thing happen to me!! its really heartbreaking, but apparently quite common even if you do wear your retainer. im very sorry i never asked for a permanent bonded retainer but its too late now, mine have moved too.
i was thinking of all sorts of things from new baces to veneers but i finally decided to go with invisalign clear trays. i started last week. now i only have mild crowding on the top but i thought i better do something before they moved any more and my only option was braces again, which i just couldnt go through,!!

i have to say im finding them fine, the first day was very difficult, they hurt a lot and i had to get my b/f to take them out coz i couldnt manage it but by day two i was fine.
and to be honest nobody even notices!! score!!

maybe its something you could look into if your teeth aren't too bad (they aren't suitable for every case)
unfortunetly they do cost (that depending on your case) but the perks are you can take them out to eat and if you really have a night wear you dont want to wear them you could get away with taking them off (provided you don't fall asleep and forget to put them in, )
but yeah if you just look up www.invisalign.com you can see some information on them.
its still pretty crap having to sort out my teeth again but its better than braces!! and if you are planning on fixing them sooner than later would be my advice coz even if you do get braces again u may not have to wear them that long if you sort out the problem quickly.
oh and i am planning on a permanent retainer this time when im done!!!

    hope this helps...

Hey weebear! Thanks a million for the response. yes I've heard of these yokes! Did you just go to an orthodontist again and tell them the truth?!?! I'm sooooo mad at myself!! And also I really wish they had given me the bonded retainer OPTION. It wasn't even mentioned to me, my friend has one and her teeth are perfect still!

i looked up a few places on the internet and i finally decided on clane hospital, they do them there (they do allsorts of cosmetic dentistry) theres another place called smiles which i think is meant to be good too!!

yeah i did just tell them the truth, they hear it everyday!! most people who get invisalign are people who have already had braces, i believe, which would make sense since it only corrects minor problems.

flynner13: yeah that is roughly the price range unfortunetly, however, it depends on your case, and you can also claim tax back which is handy enough,so u get something back.

as for the whole experience im really finding it fine, yeah its a bit of a pain having to keep taking them in and out ot eat and constantly brushing your teeth, but u get used to that (stops u snacking!!) but comapred to train tracks its a breeze.
the only problem is not everybody is a candidate so be sure to look into it, i've only started my treatment so i can't say how good it will turn out quite yet but (praying it goes well) but wearing them is grand.:D

Looks like I'm going to have to get braces again too. Had them from 14-18, I'm now 22 and my teeth are right back to where they were when I was 13. I also never got a bonded retainier option, and I was quite lazy.
I have a really big overbite, my front teeth stick way out. Do anyone know if I could get invisalign or would I have to go get another mouthful of metal?

you would have to get a consultation because i know it doesnt fix major cases, i know it can be limited when it comes to fixing some over bits too, but i can't really help, a consultation with an ortho will tell you straight away...

    Same here.
Started off with retainer for a least a year or 2, then back teeths were removed to make room for teeth and straighten, braces for 3yrs.
ovely Straight teeth for only 2/3yrs, got lazy with the retainers, then didnt fit anymore too painful gave them up.
And so they got crooked again.
Grrr, what a waste Ah well.
Soo..been told that if i want to regain those straight teeths again, back to braces for 2yrs for €6000.
    I could cry.
No body told me about the perm retainer, or how very important to keep wearing retainers.
    They should have warned me.
I even went back to different dentist asking them to remove new back teeths to prevent it getting it worse.
And they didnt do anything about it - What!! Said it wasnt neccessary - hello!
So went to third dentist who said that if i really want to, i just have to wear braces - no short cuts.
    So you are not alone.

How bizarre, googled this thread again and discovered recent activity!! :D

Well, I still haven't done anything about it. I HAVE to but the money element is seriously scary....I am but a student! Does anyone know can you get an installment type payment plan anywhere? I'm sure you'd still have to pay a huge chunk at first though :(

Considering Seapoint Clinic. I need wisdom teeth removed too now, as they've come up and impacted and further ruined my once perfect teeth. :(

Theres also the option of the 6 month orthodontics, they work much quicker than invisalign, depending on the severity of the case they take about 6-8 months from the start of treatment to the end.

There tooth coloured so not half as noticable as the metal ones. I think you have to be over 14 to get them.
Im getting mine done in Clane (initial consultation is free) so its worth checking out and its only about 35/40 mins drive drom dublin. Ive been quoted €3750 for top and bottom.

Whats the name of place Peachy, you got some contact details? cheers

    Thanks guys.

To be honest wouldn't even be thinking of Invisalign. Don't mind having "normal" clear braces (had metal for 3.5 years and wasn't bothered, though I realise it's a little less common in the 20s :D ) Think I am just convinced that they aren't as effective as the real deal, and have met a few people who were disappointed in them.

I think I would probably only need them on for the 6-8 months (hopefully!!) anyway, so not too bad. Though I do need to get the wisdoms out first, so I suppose I should go somewhere soon enough.

Clane would be good, if I drove! Damned procrastination!

Its the dental clinical in Clane General Hospital in Kildare. Its not far form the Maynooth junction off the M4. I think the website is www.dentaloptions.com but if you look up Clane general hospital and click the dental link you should be able to get it up.
