    Hi,
I'm thinking of buying this monitor in about 5 months time.

The thing is it is reduced by 160 euro at the moment. It usually costs 810 euro but costs 650 atm. Do you think I should go ahead and buy it now or will there be something better around for the same price or less in 5 months time?

    Thanks,
    Kev

It'll probably be replaced by something else by then.

This is what I usually do when I need to get a large screen a bit cheaper.

Spec a low-mid range pc with the 24 screen you want, like this one:
    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=ie&cs=ieepp1&kc=DRS53002&l=en&oc=D045016&rbc=D045016&s=dhs
It comes to €919 minus the EPP discount (€50.94) = €858.06

Then if there's a discount code available, the current 10% one is 3DR1D1P17?8T45, apply that to the basket and get the price down to €778.65.

Order the pc, keep the monitor and flog the rest.

Wow. That's surprising. How could they be selling the same monitor for only 100 euro less than a computer with the same monitor.

    Thanks. Might do that.

I've been watching that monitor and it's been €650 for a good while now. Your best bet though is grabbing it from ebay for around €550, including a 4 year Next Business Day warranty.

I've the older 2407WFP-HC monitors and find them fantastic. Only difference the newer model has is the HDMI port afaik?

Im using the Dell 2407. Love it however the PIP setting are frustrating. Dont remember the last config, always revert back to the default pairing. Picture class, compnent connection excellent.

Not quite , the Ultrasharps were pretty much the best thing Dell were selling for a long time , but lately they have changed the Ultrasharp technology to TN panels instead of S-IPS , and that makes a huge difference , S-IPS panels cost a lot more than TN panels.

TN panels are nowhere near as good as S-IPS , especially when it comes to color accuracy , ( photographers love S-IPS panels ...they are the best for photo editing because of the color accuracy and gamut ).

That could explain the price drop , check before you buy if the panel is TN or S-IPS.

This site tells you what panel type an LCD has ,

That actually shows up the 2408wfp as S-PVA, it's the E248wfp which is the TN one. :)

Yeah , the point is though, that all Ultrasharps used to be S-IPS , S-PVA is not that much better than TN , its very much a stopgap between cheap and cheerful TN panels and pro S-IPS panels
