Here's another from my recreation series.

    Malin head 100 years on.

I wasn't in the exact position that Robert J Welch was stood. There was a bit of a swell and large walls of water were coming through the channel. Nor was my friend happy about jumping over to the island.

Very nice Andy, a great idea for a project.

Andy, as mentioned elsewhere I have to give you a lot of kudos for taking up this project. I think it's fascinating.

Regarding the photograph, I have to say that I think yours is far better than the original. I know it's a slightly different angle but the light and shade are wonderful.

I'm pretty sure you mentioned something about a book linked to this project? Can you give us the heads up when/if it appears? I would be extremely interested in pushing up your sales.

    regards

But surely the person who took the original had less technology to work with and couldn't alter anything?
I am no expert at Photography so I could be totally wrong of course.

Technology is not the answer to everything. For reference please look at some of Ansel Adams' worth to see what was possible with much older technology. I'd also add that it is entirely likely that a key issue here would be the limitations of technology for mass printing. IIRC, these were to be included in cigarette packs.

It is entirely possible that the original photographer had a mandate to shoot X number of sites in Ireland without the artistic remit which Andy has almost certainly given himself.

At the end of the day, what you need to remember is that the most important piece of equipment that a photographer will have in his arsenal is his mind's eye.
