The developers who illegally demolished the Gazebo have applied for Planning Permission for the following:

'demolition of bungalow and construction of 5 no. 3 bedroom, 2 storey terraced houses with developed roof space and associated site works.'

This is in spite of the fact that they were served with an Enforcement Notice to reinstate the Gazebo. There are no documents as yet online, even though the received date was 11/04/2008. The plans, which can be viewed at KCC, don't even mention the Gazebo, and they are proposing to build FIVE terraced houses, cramped in between The Walled Gardens and The Elms ON TOP OF THE GAZEBO, which they are describing as 'RUINS'. The development address they give is the house next door in the Elms, owned by somebody else altogether.

1,000 signatures in protest at the Gazebo destruction were signed. However, we now need your full support in objecting to this hideous development, to KCC.

    Last date for objections: 16/05/2008

This situation is an utter disgrace and totally undermines the whole Planning system!! If Planning Permission is granted for this development, it will set a precedent for all Protected Structures, and also the opportunity to build terraced houses in the middle of established detached and semi-detached housing estates. It has got to be stopped!!

Kildare Co. Council has requested further information from the developers.

    See Link:Gazebo Document number: 871683

The general view of people in Celbridge, especially Castletown Housing Estate, and people outside Celbridge, is that this Planning Application should have been ‘flatly refused’. However, the major issues have been addressed in this request for Further Information, and consequently the appalling situation continues.

How many objections went in? Its all well and good signing a petition but if no objects nothing will happen.

In relation to the enforcement notice alot of councils are refusing planning based on this.

Kearnsr, Thank you for your reply. I think you are right about the objections. We have seen instances where there were no objections, and hideous Planning Permissions were granted in spite of the fact that they contravened the County and Local Area Plans. This should not be happening.

If you click on the Gazebo link above, you will see the objections. There are twelve on-line, including the Castletown Residents Association and An Taisce.

You have said ‘In relation to the enforcement notice alot of councils are refusing planning based on this.’ I would really appreciate it if you could please give me instances of this. Thank you.

Anyone notice that the white bungalow behind the Gazebo between The Elms and the Walled Gardens, is on sale. Not only that but is sale agreed, with FULL planning permission for 3 houses. Do the residents either side of this "development" know about this, and if so what do they think of it. Also whats finally gonna happen with the ruins of the Gazebo???
