Dead headset on 6300

I've got a reasonably new 6300 (O2, about 1 month old) and the headset or the the headphone socket on the phone has stopped working.

It's getting a firm connection with the socket, since I can hear the headset is powered, but the phone doesn't switch into headset mode.

I have no other headset to test it with, but it seems more likely that it's a problem with the phone. Anyone else had this issue or got any advice? (Degunk with toothpick or something?) Likely to be a phone or headset issue?

(The supplied headset is crap so I would be tempted to replace it to see if that solves the problem)

had a similar issue with my 6300 - seemed to be a very bad physical connection inside - it kept asking to insert headphones although they were already inserted. you could not touch the headset or it would disconnect.
i blew out the connector on the phone with compressed air and it seems to be fine since. I was always using non nokia headphones with this phone.

    hope this is some help.

Yeah, sounds good, thanks, surprised I didn't think of that since it works so well for computer components. I'll head down to Fnac and get a can of compressed air
