    Hi all,

Got a job as a fund accountant and I HATE it. Cant blame he job as such I guess its my fault for taking it.

I did a BA degree in Accounting and Finance in DKIT and got a 2.2 honours degree. I always wanted to do something involving economics. Would I have to do a masters or another degree or what jobs could I get that would get me on the road to becomming the next George Lee, Eddie Hobbs or David Mc Williams with my current qualification??

    Thanks

I'd say you'd probably need a masters. UCD is the best masters in Ireland but you might need an economics degree, if you do you could always start with their higher diploma in economics first which is basically doing 3rd year.

You could try for an internship somewhere like the ESRI maybe first? Its tough enough to get economics jobs though I'm finishing my MA and realising i'd probably need to do a PhD if I wanted to be an economist.

21? No 21-year-old should be stuck in a job they hate. I'd say it's too late to apply for courses now - closing date is usually March or April. But don't take that as gospel either. Have a browse around asap. If you can't start a course until autumn 2009 why not have a look for work that's somewhat economics related? Sorry, I haven't a clue what that would be. Maybe something in a large bank? Are you living in Dundalk? You'd probably have to move to Dublin for anything in the economics area.

Haven't a clue if they do. I was suggesting India more for an adventure than for employment. There is a whole world out there to explore, volunteer work to be done etc..
Its only my humble opinion but you should see the world before you commit to a career, mortgage, family etc..

UCD don't just take people from Economics, someone I know who did Economics and Finance which isn't actually too econ heavy did the Masters. There is also a H Dip in Economics and an MA qualifier in UCD which I'm sure you would be able for if you studied Econ at all.
Good news also is closing date isn't til July.
