    Lads

got to eradicate a few minor rust spots on the car, nothing big, just on the surface.

So im looking for a commonly available anti-rust / rust inhibiting primer that is easy to get and easy to apply in driveway conditions.

Area will be ground/sanded down to blank metal first ...which primer works best at keeping the brown pest at bay ?

Underside or topside? Are there going to be any pits in the metal after you clean it?

If underside then I've found POR-15 silver good. Prepare the area thoroughly, degrease it, apply Metal Ready solution then use at least 2 coast of POR-15 primer. Because you brush it on it's not really suitable for topside.

underside is the new topside :D

Naa... in my case it doesn't matter, my yoke is painted in matt matt olive green, a bit of a rough looking repair will go totally unnoticed on that paint.

Just really looking for the primer that does the best job, cosmetics is secondary.

I've heard about POR 15 ..where does one get that ?

Frost Automotive in the UK seems to be the only place around that sells POR-15. Postage is very dear though and you're hit espcially hard if you only have a small order.

I think the POR will do a good job for you but it might not be worth the expense.

I use a product called Galvafroid and is easily available in Ireland. Its easy to apply, you can paint over it and does a good job. However its not cheap but goes along way. Also it sounds if you are going to use olive drab on it and even that stuff lasts for centuries.

Usual safety precautions apply - wear gloves and watch the splashes.
Use this link to read up on maker: http://www.nwepaints.co.uk/acatalog/Galvafroid%20Data.PDF
Try co-op, farm stores, builders supplies, diy outlets. Depending on size you will pay between 20 - 50 Euro's.

    Hope this helps you

Another thing is to use "etch primer".
It will bond with the metal through chemical reaction, if my explanation is correct. It's low build, so you might use some filler or high build "normal" primer afterwards.
You should be able to get it in a rattle can, Halfords, motorfactors...

Galvafroid is pretty good. That is what I am using on the capri at the moment. I have put it on a lot of farm machines and stuff in the past, and it certainly helps quite dramatically.

What is the name of the stuff your man on Wheeler Dealers uses. He paints it onto rust and claims that it chemically alters it...

    + 1 for the galvafroid.

Heres what I use for small areas.

    Rust reverser (loctite)
    Galvafroid
    Hamerite underseal (Underside)
"Classic car colours" top coat applied with the brush thats in the lid for topside.
