Backing up iTunes

    Hi all

I have a problem with mx Windows XP and it required a reinstall recently (not a clean install). However after the installation I coudn't update to SP2 for some reason. As a result I can't even open iTunes as its not up to SP2.

My only option is to format and reinstall Windows, which would mean losing my iTunes and all my files

Is there a way around this? Obviously I don't want to start my collection again from scratch....

    Any help is much appreciated

    cheers

What's stopping the SP2 installation? Any errors? Have you tried skipping it and trying SP3 to see if that works?

Other option would be get an external drive and transfer all your music to that for the format/installation.

Just copy your itunes folder to another hard drive import it back when you do the fresh install.

Alternatively... get a copy of XP that has SP2 built into it and do a repair install with it. You will then have SP2! It should work with your own key as long as you match it with an oem or retail disk depending on what you have.

you should back up your itunes folder regardless though.

It won't allow installation of the SP2, as it hangs. Its an innate problem with some reinstallation of Windows. The only option in some cases is to do a clean install

I'll try the SP3, although I've heard it causes more problems in some computers....

Clean installs are always the best policy.

But as suggested, a second hard drive a fresh install would be the best plan.

    I've had 0 problems with SP3.
