I'd be very surprised if it wasn't integrated.

I'm pretty sure all laptops have built in wireless now a days. It's probably a/b/g.

What is the processor on it?

It's not a Duo core, it's a Pentium Dual Core.

Does anyone know, is there a huge difference performance-wise between Pentium Dual Core, and Core2Duo? Cos I'm very interested in that laptop myself...

I think the pentium dual core is just a core 2 duo with half the cache. I'm not too sure though so I'll do a bit of digging.

Jack all difference for day to day uses....think 1mb l2 cache vs 2mb on the core 2.

Yep 1MB for the pentium dual cores and 2MBs for the core 2 duos. The speed is probably 1.6Ghz so it'll be grand for most people.

Yes they do interest free option finance, i.e. you pay 11 payments and then a balloon payment. What they won't tell you is that you can make as many extra payments during the those 11 months as you like, so your balloon payment is much smaller.

3 year extended warranty available for €199
You can pay for this up front or pay €15 on purchase and then pay €18.40 per month over 10 months interest free.

That's nearly half the price of the laptop. You didn't fall for that? Did you?

Is this in every Currys store?

Have a mate wants one but he's out the southside so don't want him to waste a visit to Blanch or Santry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,595 ✭✭✭johnnyrotten

Theres a huge difference , the only one that matters to most users though , is that the pentiums are power hungry and run bloody hot , so I wouldnt be using it on my lap.
The battery life of 2.5 hours is the pentiums fault , you could probably expect 4 on an equivalent core 2 duo.

The architecture of the chip was completely re-designed when jumping from pentiums to Cores by the way. Theres a world of difference between them.

Not actually true any more. The current pentium dual cores are core 2 duos with half the cache. The architcture is exactly the same now. So there wouldn't be much between them and they would consume similar amounts of power and produce similar amounts of heat (the higher end core 2 duos would probably consume more power and produce more heat).

    Vista is a grand

I know its off topic but vista has to be the worst OS since M.E.. Maybe after a few service packs it might be better but if you are looking to buy a cheap laptop with maybe 1 gig of ram only option is to wipe it and put XP on it. I have it on a quad core with 4 gigs of ram and its ok but everyday users wouldnt need that spec. They should have made a different version for home users..

I think Mathias must have been thinking of the old Pentium 4/D architecture...

As stated Pentium dual Core is Core 2 Duo with disabled l2 cache.

Just in case anyone was scared away. :)

Indeed I was lads , first night shift of the month and a hasty post and I forgot about the revived budget pentiums ....apologies !
