O2 won't transfer ownership

I don't know if this should be in Consumer Issues, if it should then apologies to the mods.
I have been trying to transfer ownership of an O2 'phone from someone else's name to myself.
I posted abou it before (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055263577&highlight=transfer+ownership)
I filled in a transfer of ownership form and posted it in a freepost envelope that had O2's address in Limerick on it.
I rang O2 a week later to check the status of the transfer and they told me they never got it.
I filled out the form again and went into a shop and they faxed it there and then.
I rang O2 again and again they said they never got it.
They told me to fill in the form again and send it again but I really don't see the point as they will just say the same thing again (count the number of occurrences of the word "again" in this post!).
This sounds bonkers but is there any way I can physically go to their HQ (I think it's in Limerick which isn't that far from me) and hand it to them?
This seems to be the only way. The alternative is to cancel the contract which I don't really want to do as I will have to get a new number.

They are receiving it for sure, they are just messing me about. An Post is not the cause of the problem. I sent it by fax too anyway.

right so. call them again and get an agent's name. tell them you're sending them a fax right now and to go and get it and report back that they're holding it in they're hand and everything is in order.

then call again the next day, ask for that person and see if they've lost it. if not, ask the progress. repeat until ownership has changed :D

do you mind if i ask you why do you need to transfer ownership of an O2 phone to someone else's name? like does the other person's sim card work in the O2 phone? if so, why bother transferring it? ok - i know there are things such as IMEI, phone mis-use yada yada but seriously, it's seems you are getting a lot of hassle for something (in my opinion) is not that important. just my 2-cents....obviously my opinion....i could be mistaken.

i will now just as i click "Submit Reply" go and read your other thread....incase the answers lie there :D

@laoisfan - "phone mis-use yada yada" would be enough of a reason for me to transfer ownership!

I did a change of ownership before xmas OP and the guy in the shop was able to do it on the phone there and then in front of me. He can probably do it for you aswell if you're transfering from a regular business or individual account to an individual account.

Alternatively, if the phone is out of contract get the current owner to put the number on Speakeasy (he can ring while you stand in the shop), and then signup for a new contract with the number yourself.

And you should use registered post if you do post it. You can't just claim they're getting it and ignoring you.

I have been using and paying the bills for the 'phone even though it was registered in another person's name. The reason for this is because that person was on a special reduced tariff and the 'phone had to be in that person's name in order for me to use that tariff.
I want to change ownership because in my job they were supposed to supply me with a 'phone but did not, instead they told me to transfer my existing 'phone to them and they will pay the bills.
Obviously I cannot transfer ownership my 'phone while it is in someone else's name.
Anyway's I think it is sorted now after much grief. Like random said in his post above I was able to get it done in the shop over the 'phone.
It was really the fault of the assistant in the shop as when I first went to do it she gave me a form to fill in and post. She should have known it can be done over the 'phone.
Now I need to lie down.

Keep faxing copies with a note on the top saying that when they have done the transfer you'll stop faxing.

If I had my own fax machine that might not be a bad idea!
I think it's done now 'cause when I enter the date of birth when I ring their customer care it no longer accepts the date of birth of the other person (which it used to before).
I now have to enter my own date of birth which I put on the change of ownership form today and which there is no way they could have known otherwise.
