Thinking of buying a digital SLR and I'm looking at the
    Nikon D40X 10.2 MP or
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Black 10.1 MP.

Any advice on price and camera would be much appreciated!

have a wekk serach, this topic comes up almost every week, those two exact cameras,

Just so you know, the number of mega-pixels isn't very important, its more a marketing gimmick for compacts.

Well i think you should go the shop try both cameras and you will see what feels right (Canon i know)

I have 2 Canon EoS and i wouldn't consider to change to Nikon, you also have more lens in Canon...

Canon Vs Nikon will be always a never ending story but check it out for youself and buy canon :P

As above, i think its essential you go into the shop and get to hold them so see what feels right.I was all set on Canon until i tried them in the shop and went Nikon for me it was just more comfortable in the hand.

My answer would be oranges. :D

Apples, oranges - all very nice fruit. It just depends on your personal taste.

But if you're talking about cameras, then buy the one that suits you best and feels best to you. Try them, hold them, and read the FAQ section of the photography forum, where all this kind of stuff is already discussed and detailed.

We've all been there starting out (apart from those who inherited one or t'other) I guess.

What helped me make up my mind was using the comparison tools on www.dpreview.com I ended up going with the Nikon d80, even though I had gone into the process with my heart set on a Pentax k10d.

i know exactly how you feel...its not an easy decision, and i found the more i read about the cameras the more i became confused as to which to go for. in the end i went for the D60 and am having fun figuring it out. the thing that sold me was actually going to a shop as recommended above. i held both cameras had a mess with them in the shop. i went twice before i decided on the Nikon....and it took me one month to do so  not easy at all!

Thanks guys, as you say, test drive before you buy.
I suppose it really is down to personal choice.
I'm leaning towards the Nikon but a go in the shop
    might convince me otherwise!
