I have four names for the Horse show at my home yard on the 5th of May

    Kensutz (possible)
    Qwertz
    Mart_Max
    WeekOldPencil

    Standby List
    Dink

This would be the maximum I would bring to the show (looks a bit funny with more people and tbh thats the max that I can give advice too)

Anyway what I have planned for the day is to sell and print on site, there is only one arena so not running around to different ones and everybody can be up at one end or two at one end and two at the other. I can give advice and check shots throughout the day and if people would like they can also have a look at the selling side of things including printing on site. After the show we can retire to the local pub and I can put some of your shots on the laptop and we can go through whats right and wrong with them. You wont be expected to shoot the pictures I will be doing this so its purely a learning experience and all about getting the camera set-up and the timing of each shot. Being consistent is the name of the game. I can show everybody around the stables too if they would like..

As before if anybody cant make it please let me know and I will have a standby list

    Keith

Here are some shots from last year to give you an idea of whats to come :)

Pity you are up in Donegal, I could give you some one to one training. Maybe even throw you up on the horse too :)

Would you stick me on the standby list please Keith, I have the local football final here on the evening of the 3rd May so I'd be grand for the Monday!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

    Done :)

Will the 300mm be ok for the shoot or too much of a zoom on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

I will probably use a 70-200 on the day, the 300mm will depend on where you stand. You can get quite close to the arena.

    This is exciting. Thanks Keith.

I don't have much gear, a 40D and 17-85mm IS USM lens so I'll be relying on my patience and consistency where technically possible :D.

kensutz, that's at least better than my standard lens. :)

I will use the 70-200 f2.8 on the day but you can use whatever else that I have

    50mm f1.4
    85mm f1.8
    100mm f2.8
    120-300mm f2.8
    24-70mm f2.8
    17-40mm f4.0

    Canon 5d

I will have these ones the day so you can try some out and see what works.

I'll let you know by Wednesday or Thursday if I can make it. We might have a cricket match this weekend which is a cup game so if we do, Dink can have my place.

    Hi Keith,

Thanks for the info, I think I know where you are. If I'm not wrong, I've to take the right turn into Brock Inn pub of which just before Texaco on my right. Had been to Ballymacarney before couple of times, so hopefully it helps! As I don't drive, I have to figure out how to transport myself. Failing that, I suppose I have to let this chance goes again. Will let you know soon!

    Cheers,
    Mart

Its the Coolquay Lodge pub but you are on the right way..Thanks for letting me know Mart. I have a lot to organise and I am only back from Badminton shooting press work on Sunday night..

Thanks Keith for correcting me. I've been practising myself with Al Servo, fast shooting and playing around with shutter speed/aperture over the weekend. You could see on my flickr, my 17-85mm did a little zooming on birds. althou, I totally messed up some of compositions.

Any chance I could get a lift to that place from dublin on monday? I'm having some problems with my bike, and I hope to get them sorted by the end of the week, but I'm asking just in case.
    Cheers

    Sounds good.

Will you take care of our culinary needs as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

I will be away from Thursday evening to Sunday night just in case anybody is looking for anything. If you cant make the show, just post it up and somebody else might be able to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,667 ✭✭✭MartMax

i'm still up for this. no arranged transport, so i might just grab a cab from dublin city ctr.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

If you've no transport, the best thing would be to get a bus to Finglas and then get a taxi from there.

    Bus to Finglas - 40, 40A, 40D, 40B, 140, 83.

Finglas is only about 5-10 min from the arena.

How are we going to recognize one another? The only horseless fellas in the place?

A wild guess here - the only people carrying SLRs and not with horses. Also, those not dressed for show jumping.
