    Hi,

After watch King of Kong last week I now want to get an arcade game. So I have a couple of (possibly stupid) questions.

    1. Where is the best place in Ireland to get a 2nd hand cabinet.

    2. If I got a standard JAMMA cabinet would that place every/most JAMMA games.

    3. Is anyone selling a full cabinet (stand up), I have checked boards and the only ones left are too pricey or bar top style.

    4. Is it hard to build a cabinet from parts (Aside from getting the shape in the wood surround). And what parts do I need.
(I've been looking on ebay but I am not sure what parts I need.)

    and finally (and most stupid)...
    5. If I got a cabinet I would have to put it in my shed. has anyone done something similar and how do you deal with protection from the cold, lack of insulation

    Thanks for any responses.

    Tok

You get the odd one now and again on adverts.ie. I just bought one myself on ebay. It's worth keeping a look out there.

    Hi Tok

    1. Where is the best place in Ireland to get a 2nd hand cabinet.

I have a couple of project cabs, let me know what you are lookin for

    2. If I got a standard JAMMA cabinet would that place every/most JAMMA games.

Depends on the control panel you have also vertical/hoz monitor setup

    3. Is anyone selling a full cabinet (stand up), I have checked boards and the only ones left are too pricey or bar top style.

What is your price range, what type of cab?

    4. Is it hard to build a cabinet from parts (Aside from getting the shape in the wood surround). And what parts do I need.
(I've been looking on ebay but I am not sure what parts I need.)

depends on set up if you wanted to go the jamma route.Power supplies/wiring loom/monitor etc There is a kit on Ebay.uk for a mame kit will give you the idea of what you need.

    and finally (and most stupid)...
    5. If I got a cabinet I would have to put it in my shed. has anyone done something similar and how do you deal with protection from the cold, lack of insulation

Remember that most jamma boards are afew years old and can be a bit temperamental of the cold.

Best case is buy a cab strip it out throw in a Pc,monitor etc and set it up for mame.Less to worry about pcbs imploding on a cold winters night..

If you need any info parts etc let me know I might be able to help

    My 2c cheers Mitch

    Mitchomagic,

I am looking for a stand up cabinet with 4-6 buttons for 2 players. Idealy I would be looking for a 19 inch + display.

I looked on jammaboards.com and from their games list most are horizontal displays.

I want to spend as little as possible but no more than 400 for everything including a game. I know this isn't much but this is an experimental project and I don't know about resale value on these things.

In relation to MAME, I've only ever played it on a pc and never really thought much of it. This may be down to using a keyboard for arcade games, or the fact that I was sitting at a desk rather than standing at a machine in a gruby arcade.

Would you recommend them and can you hook proper arcade controls to them?

    Thanks again

    Eoin

I am looking at a few machines x week will keep you posted, there might be something there that would suit you,I have no idea whats there just now

As for Mame,Wasting your time using a pc for the controls, need a joystick/button set up.

    Cheers Mitch

    Mitch,

That would be great if you could keep an eye out thanks.

I have been looking at x-arcade in I go the MAME route.

Also could I just use an old CRT monitor or should I really try for the arcade monitor?

    Thanks

    Eoin
