    SiSi @ The Cellar Underground
    Saturday 10pm

    Salutations,

Recently, in this glorious circular, that is fast becoming essential reading for hipsters worldwide (Hello James!), we've been deconstructing the various machinations of nightclub promotion which are employed to attract punters to parties. This week, we focus on how club promoters use terminology, which pertains to numbers and initials, that is familiar to people in the industry... but which may not mean much to the man on the street. Of course, though he may not understand what these numbers and letters actually signify, this doesn't stop the same man from mouthing them off down the pub in a very loud voice, whilst sipping on the latest imported bottle of beer from Eastern Europe.

Join SiSi this Saturday night on the ones, twos and CDJs for a night of four-to-the floor where they'll be cranking up the BPMs on a 200w sound system.

Ones & twos = another name for record decks, emanating from the fact that each deck is assigned to a channel on the mixer, traditionally one deck apiece to channel one and two respectively. In earlier days, referred to as "the wheels of steel".

CDJs = A compact disc player designed by Pioneer, which has become the industry standard and can be found in most clubs now.

Four-to-the-floor = A handy tag to describe pretty much all dance music, but most especially house and techno, which operate on a structure of four beats to every bar.

200w soundsystem = not as impressive as it actually sounds.

BPMs = Beats Per Minute, earlier in the evening expect to hear tunes in the range of 100-110BPM (nu-disco, Balearic) , with things peaking around the 130BPM mark (Berghain-style engine-piston techno) later on.

SiSi = Two charlatans masquerading as DJs, who needed a brand to hang on to when they let go of their previous incarnation, 110th Street. Sometimes pronounced as 'Sissy' on 2FM on a Saturday night, the correct pronounciation is actually 'Cee-Cee'.

In other news, our beloved sisters-in-law Ger Z & PTK have finally gotten off their arses to start their own club residency. Called Night Falls, this will take place on the last Friday of the month at the Cellar Underground and will showcase their insatiable lust for dance music: from nu-disco and Balearic to Panormama-esque bleepage. They debut this coming Friday with DFA Record's **** Robot, an accomplished DJ and producer, at the controls.

I believe that it's fair to say that there seems to be a bit of a renaissance happening in Galway clubbing at the moment, with underground promoters wooing the ilk of Fairmont and Ulrich Schnauss west of the Shannon. Did I mention that you look super today?
