WMP 11 freezing after pausing DVDs

    Hey all,

    Really sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I couldn't find a better one.

    Basically, I came in the other day after leaving my laptop unattended for about 30 minutes and heard it making that constipated whirring sounds that it does when you put an unreadable CD or DVD in. The screen was blank and wouldn't come back on. It was ignoring all commands, including ctrl alt delete. I forced it to turn off and when it came back on, it told me to run repairs, which I did. My system seems fine now, but if I play a DVD in WMP and pause it, when I come back and restart it, it freezes after about 2 seconds and started making that constipated whirring sound again. If I eject the DVD and restart it, it's fine again.

    The DVDs are all ones I've played before with no trouble. It's WMP 11 and I'm running Vista. I have Avast anti-virus protection which constantly scans my system, so I can't see it being a virus or anything.

    Has anyone any ideas about what might be causing this, and how to fix it? Thanks!
