How do I determine what the VAT (21%) is from the Gross figure?

I'm trying to write a spreadsheet calculation.

    Example:
If the Gross figure is €900 how do I calculate that the VAT on that amount is €156.20 and the Net figure is €743.80?

    My brain hurts..... :)

To get the net from the gross divide by 1.21 (for 21% Vat)
=900/1.21 will give you the net amount

=A1/1.21 (if you put the gross amount in cell A1)

To calculate the vat amount subtract the net from the gross

    Good Luck
