Keeping UK EPG on Irish box

Ive tried the sky news interactive trick, but everytime i turn on my digibox without a card in it goes back to the Irish EPG. Ive tried a reset and software upgrade on my digibox in the bedroom. Its annoying when i get into bed and switch the box on to watch itv and tv3 "no card inserted" appears!

IS there anyway to turn my Irish box into a UK box WITHOUT having a card to do the sky news trick?

I think you can put in any card, like an old phone card or somthing.
Make sure the card is clean and if it has a chip, make sure the chip is the wrong way up.

Even a stiff business card may do. :)

upside down card is still bringing up the irish epg after the box has been turned off.do i need to do the sky news trick 1st?

On most boxes you will need to do the Sky news trick every time. See if it works with the fake card.

You need to leave the Sky Digibox plugged in anyway as it can take up to 15mins to start sometimes if unplugged. Is it reverting when put to "standby"? (Sky Standby simply kills RF modulator & SCART).

Odd. Last summer i was living in a house that had a sky box with an expired irish card. We just took the card out and we were able to get the UK epg as default...

I always presumed this was the default thing...

I had to unplug mine and leave it for half an hour. Then when i plugged it in with the card upside down the UK EPG appeared.

I have a SKY HD box. I don't have to do any voodoo with the SKY News red button. Just turn the box to standby, then power off (remove mains power) and remove the card. When it powers back up it's on the UK EPG.

Yes. It depends on Model /Sw version used.
Some boxes do and some don't. Some don't now but used to a few years ago. I can't see a pattern to it. It may be that if a box used to use the old card and got the new card upgrade that it is on Irish EPG by default at power on.
