I've been on the dole since July last year and atm it seems as if it will continue that way until September. I've applied for a postgrad and assuming I get it I will probably apply for the BTEA. But can anyone tell me for sure that I am entitled to it? I went to the Citizens advice people and the woman there printed out some info. I found something in it that suggested I could get it, and my ma found something that said I couldn't. So can someone please help clear this up? I'm 22, will be on the dole 12 months by the time I go back, and I have done a BA. Am I entitled to it?

Any use? or is that the info you already have? It depends on the type of postgrad you want to do - have copied and pasted from the site the following:
The Postgraduate option of the BTEA Scheme is only for people who wish to take:

    * a postgraduate course of study that leads to a Higher Diploma (H. Dip.) qualification

    or

    * a Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary teaching).

Other postgraduate qualifications are not recognised for BTEA purposes.

You will not get the BTEA if you already hold a postgraduate qualification

whie it appears you may not get it for a postgrad qualification unless it's for one of the above postgrad options, if you can make a good enough case for yourself, you may get a sympathetic officer who will see what they can do in your situation. Best to call to your local office and have a chat to them to find out for sure though.

The HDip option is for the HDip in Education only, no other higher diplomas qualify under the BTEA. I found this out the hard way.

You can call SW BTEA section on 1890 777111 for further info

Masters in education are not covered under BTEA.
