Bought a 47" Philips hdtv, plays PS3 games ok but blueray dvd's and welcome screen keep getting darker and brighter intermittently, any idea what problem could be.tried different hdmi leads and resolutions but keeps happening.TV or PS3 problem?

Try the PS3 on a different TV to see if the problem persists. That way you can isolate whether it's the TV or PS3.

You're not alone, ninty! My 32'' Beko HDTV does the same thing whenever I play games on my PS3 (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune does it all the time). The thing is, I think it's the PS3 and not the TV because my 360 doesn't do that at all and I use the same HDMI cable for it.

EDIT: I just got my TV over the weekend, BTW.

May have found a cause for the problem, dynamic contrast enhancement, was told it can be switched off in service menu of tv (not advisable except by Qualified technician)It can cause fluctuating contrast as it tries to adjust scenes that are too bright or dark.Think i will call out a philips engineer. Not happening with xbox 360.

Cool. Will see if my TV can get that service menu thingy, then get someone out to have a look.

probably a long shot here... but that sounds like an anti copy thing... is your tv HDCP compatible??

that used to happen to me sometimes on dvds.. it's to stop you making a good copy of the film.

as i said, probably a long shot, as i think most tvs are HDCP compatible now.

I think that hdcp is one of the conditions of "hd ready"

Zonda999, my TV has HDCP...but I'm playing games, not watching films...

    BTW, I think I fixed the problem...but I have a question: What's DLC?

I went into the service menu and turned off DLC and I think that fixed the dimming...I'll give it another try in a while.

just a guess but would say its dynamic light contrast, would account for it fixing the dimming, lucky you.

Yeah, maybe. I'm going to try it again in a few minutes.

I found a site a while ago which shows you how to access the service menu for any TV...I can post a link to it for you, if you want to see if that DLC thingy is on your TV.

EDIT: www.bruzziforum.com/vbf/forumdisplay.php?f=5 - There you go.

EDIT 2: Right, turning DLC off has fixed the problem. I've tried both the HDMI cable and the SCART lead and both are fine now, no more dimming.

It's strange though...how come the 360 never had any problems?
