was looking at a car recently, 2 litre diesel with 150,000 miles on the clock and a 2004 reg. is this very high milage to be buying or does it really matter anymore if the car is in good condition ?

Well, it kind of depends, what do you want to do with the car in couple of years,

if you plant to keep it longer, and the price is right then high milage car can be good choice, specially if it has good service history,

but if you buy 150 000 miles driven car and keep it 4 years @ 80 000 miles, then you have a car that has 230 000 miles when you try to sell it,

if you buy a 80 000 miles driven car ...> 160 000 miles when you try to sell it, a big difference I would say

So basically this is only mathematics, high milage car should be much cheaper to be worth buying, because when time comes to get rid of the car, no-one will buy 200k + driven car unless price is close to nothing.
