hey there. im after my licence.

what do i need to do etc to get it. i know it takes a long time so i wanna start asap.

currently, ive got full b + b1 uk licence for 2 years and provisional before that for 6 months.

what i want is to be 100% legal with my bike as few of my m8's dont care about licence's etc. not my style.

so where do i begin? thanks!

    What's a B1 licence?

Your UK provisional is meaningless in an irish context anyway.

If you have a UK address to use, it'll be much faster getting your licence there and you can do direct access and ride unrestricted from passing the test (assuming you're over 21).

    Apply for Motorbike theory test
    Pass theory test
Apply for Motorbike (A) learner permit or whatever its called now
After 6 months apply for driving test

Drive a bike under 33bhp (can be restricted bike)
    Wait 2 years
Then drive what you want ;)

b1 would be car/van licence in ireland.
im 23 now soon 24. still have the address in the uk as its family owned. so i can use that. would it be better to get uk motorbike licence?

CBT - compulsary basic training, gotta do a certain amount of training time with an approved instructer before you can get your provisional. I know it exists in UK, not sure if its in effect here yet though...

The 2 year restriction is due to ireland not having a Direct Access program.

    5. Direct Access for learner riders aged 21 or over
Riders aged 21 or over may opt to take a test on a large motorcycle. On passing the test they are immediately qualified to ride any motorcycle without restrictions. This option is called Direct Access. You must complete CBT, and if necessary, a motorcycle theory test and a practical test on a motorcycle of at least 35kW (46.6bhp).

i think ill go ahead and do it this way in the uk :)

definately - I'd imagine you'd be on the road and unrestricted in the UK, while your equilivent Irish counterpart would still be waiting on their theory test

at which point I dont think its any real hassle transferring your unrestricted english license, to an unrestricted irish one, though you'd be liable for penalty points here then... (wheres the shifty smiley? :pac:)

That's the way to go RM, There's a lad from Northern Ireland (they don't have direct access up there either) called MrPudding who posts here who did it all in a week or two in England. Much quicker and if you fail, just do it again. There's much less pressure to pass because you can retest almost immediately. If you fail in Ireland you've a long wait to resit the test. Best of luck.
