gran canaria for a lads holiday

    hi,
    myself and about 6 other lads are planning on going to playa del ingles, a resort in gran canaria in late august. we're going to be staying in the Koka apartments and I was just looking for general info. from people that stayed in this region or these apartments. whats the area like? is it close to shops etc? any good activites nearby? where is the best craic at night? etc etc etc

    any response will be positively appreciated.

    Hi.

    I've never stayed in the Koka but as locations go for a lads holiday, you won't get much better.

    The apartments themselves are basic, but clean. As for location, about 100m to the Kasbah commercial center and 500m from the "Irish" center so everything you're looking for is practically on your doorstep.

    As for activities, there's loads going on all the time. Grab a taxi to the go-karting circuit in San Agustin. It's a great laugh. If you head to the Yumbo center (about 800m away from the Koka, heading in the opposite direction to the Kasbah), there's loads of restaurants of varying quality, bars and "alternative" entertainment. There's a great drag show in Cafe La Belle and they do a different show every night, well worth it.

    One thing to watch out for... Last time I was there on a lads holiday (about 7 years ago) there was a fair bit of prostitution along the road the Koka apartments are on. Not all of the "ladies" are ladies, so watch out!

    If you're so inclined, you should hire a couple of jeeps and drive into the center of the island for a real change of scenery, but being a lads trip, that's probably not on the agenda!

    The place is an absolute hole, worst place i've ever been, the locals are hot tempered and ignorant. Went there with 6 lads, none of us would ever go back.

    The only good thing I can say about the place is that the best beach I was ever on is within walking distance, for a lads drinking holiday there's got to be better

    Christ, are them apts stil there..stayed in the koka apts in 1996.. there in a good enough location but as stated above, me and the wife(then girlfriend) hated playa del ingles.. but would also agree that for a boys only holiday it would be alright..as long as you dont end up like the fellow in the crying game:D
