    Folks,

I'm looking for a contact name/email/number of somebody in the Civil Service Harriers AC. They organised a 5km race series through the summer in the Phoenix Park last year which I really enjoyed.

I want to find out if the series is being held again this year but there's nothing on the net and I don't have a contact. think I got the flyer after the Bupa 10k last year.

    Cheers,
    Rob

They organised 3 5km races along trails in the Park as well. They were on at 7:30 on a Friday evening. Last year's races were May 18th, Jun 29th and Jul 27th.

Thanks Stark. They are the races I'm talking about.

I'll be running the 10 mile race too but info on that is much easier to find.

Again, a contact for Civil Service would be much appreciated.

Hi robbicosta, I dug up my mail about the runs from last year, and the contact detail given is Stephen Lynch 01-8203628. He might not be the one organising the events this year but I'm sure he could point you in the right direction.

What were the trails like? Would you wear spikes or flats on them? Any idea of the standard at the front of the race?

Trail is two laps around the back of the cricket pitches. It's flat enough throughout with one steep valley at the second and fourth km. There is a small enough field (around 40 to 50 people) and the standard varies. I'd say there are three or four runners that would be putting in sub 17mins.

The trail is dry and suitable for flats but short spikes are fine too.

I managed to get a number for Willie Devine in the club. I called him and he told me that the club are meeting tonight and will be discussing the possibity of holding the series this year. He said to call him back tomorrow for info. I'll update this post when I find out.

used to run a great 3k series out in portmarnock about 10 years ago , did great things for my summer form.

This hasn't been updated in a while, but for anyone who is interested:

I was thumbing through a copy of Thursday's Herald in the take-away (don't ask) earlier and spotted a small mention of these races. The first one is on May 16th starting at the Dog Pond, can't remember the dates of the others but they're on in June and July iirc. Entry is €5 per race or €10 for the series.

That's all that I can remember, will keep a look out for it again next week.

Sorry folks. I meant to reply earilier but have been away with work and haven't been on the boards for over a week.

I spoke to Willie Devine, and as Xbec said, the first race is Friday 16 May at 7.30pm beside the Dog Pond in the Phoenix Park. Entry is as above. The second and third races are on Fri 27 June and Fri 25 July.

I ran this race last night and really enjoyed it. The crowd was small but very friendly and the course was very flat. These races would particularly suit anyone who is new to racing and wants to give it a go in a friendly atmosphere...

Anyone run these off road races?
Thinking of doing the one on the 23rd , just wondering what curse they use?
